Katy Perry's InStyle

When I got the October issue of InStyle in the mail last week, I was presently surprised to see Katy Perry on the cover with all out cotton candy pink hair. While I have definitely seen her with this look before, it had always been paired with very "costumey" type outfits. However, on this cover and spread, she was wearing mostly neutral blacks and grays that were very glam and slightly oriental, but definitely not costumes at all. I loved the contrast between the more dreary scenery and the pop of her hair with an accessory of two. It made me think, can you look truly classy and glamorous with neon hair? Is it only acceptable for celebrities? Because honestly, I've always secretly wanted all pink hair too. Take a look at the pictures and tell me what you think.

Love the hairpiece. It is very classic Katy but still works really well.

A different shade for sure!

This look seems very glamorous. The dress is gorgeous and great for a cover.

Shoe of the Month: Oxfords

Lately, I've been really loving the comeback of oxfords. Oxfords were originally a men's shoe from Scotland and Ireland, but nowadays they have been reinvented as a new kind of flat for women. They range from classic to quirky to glam, and seem to make any plain outfit a little more interesting. The plain ones look great with casual dresses and skirts while sparky, colored ones can be a cool alternative to heels for a dressier look. Here are some of my picks.
I actually have this pair. They color is classic but the striped ties make them a little quirky and they can go with just about any outfit. A great basic.

These are actually more pink in person and the ribbon makes then a little girlier than regular oxfords. They would be so cute a lace dress or even high waisted shorts.

These Miu Mius are by far favorite of the oxfords I've seen. While these go for about $300, there are some super cheap versions at Forever21. I have yet to find ones with the bedazzled heel:)

Welcome to the Jungle: Animal Print

Today at a "pep rally' (woohoo), I found out that the theme for Homecoming was Jungle. Initially I thought of my grandma, who loves her some cheetah, but then I realized I was in High School. This means that the majority of the girls will be wearing tight little leopard print mini dresses (sigh). This is definitely not my usually dressy uniform of pink chiffon and cream lace. And while I refuse to dress like Snooki or my grandma, I decided that it could actually be fun to come up with some good ways to wear animal print. Here are some super chic street styles which are actually something to consider next time you take a trip to the jungle:)

Mixing patterns is super cool right now. Its a more updated way to wear leopard that shows you have taste and is definitely more interesting that just wearing it with black.

The enlarged print on this dress make it more graphic and clean. The vest and booties give it that toughness factor.

While this is all out cheetah, the maxi length makes it more trendy and less hoochie.

Carolina Herrera Spring/Summer 2012

As we all know, last week was fashion week, where designers showed their Spring/Summer 2012 collections. One of my favorite shows that I saw was Carolina Herrera. The dresses we so dreamy and looked like they came straight out of a spring fairly tale.

This is almost an updated Beauty and the Beast dress:)

This mint color fabric is gorgeous and the neckline is great for summer.

This dress was my favorite. I love fabric and the belt stands out.

Hey all you people! So here I am, sitting in in my house while my 12 year old sister watches Spongebob, trying to think of what to write for my first post. I'll guess I'll start off by telling you my name is Miss Mellie (not really), and I live in the rainy city of Portland, OR. I just got home from a long Friday at school, of which I spent most of my time daydreaming. I dream of living in apartment in NYC, which I pay for by my job at a hot, up and coming new fashion label or styling the rich and famous. But back to reality, lets talk about what I like now. I don't really have one favorite designer but I have always loved Chanel, Valentino, and Oscar de la Renta. Other designers I like are Marchesa, Miu Miu, Marc Jacobs, Matthew Williamson, Alberta Ferreti, Lanvin, and J. Mendel. I tend to shop most at H&M and Forever21. My celeb style icons are Blake Lively, Anne Hathaway, and Taylor Swift. I like different things about each one of them and I wish I could steal all their clothes!!!!!! Thats enough for now, but I'll have something a little more interesting soon.
Peace, Love, and Sequins,
